New Leadership at UFCW 367

Michael Hines took over as President of UFCW Local 367, inheriting a Local that was 270K in the red and in disarray following an attempted forced merger with UFCW 21, a trusteeship by the Int'l, and poor leadership after the trusteeship. The process of financial accountability began that resulted in 800K in the black within a year and doubling the money in our Strike Defense fund to over 2 million dollars.

When a sick stray cat appeared on a rep’s doorstep, we responded with compassion and adopted him into the fold. President Michael Hines named the newest member Schmitty, honoring longtime Union Organizer Dave Schmit, and he’s been our beloved mascot ever since.

UFCW LOCAL 367 PRESIDENT
MICHAEL HINES
It has been an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with our members these past three years as we’ve brought the vision of a truly member-driven union to life. But our work is far from done. The staffing and scheduling language we secured in our grocery contracts depends on passing the Workers’ Bill of Rights in Tacoma and Olympia, because every worker deserves stability and dignity on the job.
Now is the time to raise the minimum wage and secure a higher standard of living for members as they move up the wage scale, while preparing to lift the ceiling even higher when we return to the bargaining table in 2027.
We must continue to graduate new leaders through the South Sound Organizing School, grow our union’s power, and enforce our contracts where it matters most—the shop floor. And soon, with the completion of our new auditorium, we’ll have a home for open bargaining sessions, community spaghetti feeds, and solidarity-building events that strengthen our movement.
This is an exciting time for Local 367, and together, we are just getting started.
